Watchers

So my Power Ranger concept pieces are among my most favorited, most commented-on pieces in this gallery. To see that much interest in something I thought would be brushed aside is very inspiring to me, and has really helped keep the idea on my back burner instead of dumping it. Even though I think I have a solid idea, and a few concepts that help flesh it out, it really hasn't solidified into anything just yet. I've been waiting for that right inspiration to really boost it to the next level, something to make it "real" for me. That inspiration came to me a few nights ago, and in several big waves at that. When I step back and look at that inspiration, it really was just one character design element, but it really defined a whole lot for me, and opened a door for more new ideas to come flooding in. I'm rather busy with my professional and personal life, so it may be some time before any of this stuff sees the light of day. I want to be really careful from here on out on how I release my concepts, because I truly feel that there is something behind it, even if just a fragment is used elsewhere. So I need to get a lot farther along on this current concept I'm working up before I release it. But I just wanted to let you guys know that the idea just got 10x bigger, and that REALLY excites me.

I am a professional graphic designer by day, villainous prop builder by night. I have a degree in Art Studio from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, where my primary foci were printmaking and illustration. Outside of my education, I developed a love of prop building and costume making, and I consider my continuing self education of those subjects to equal the intensity of my formal education.

My interests waver quickly and regularly, so it's difficult for me to hunker down and develop a singular and distinctive body of work. As a result, you will see my subject matter, style, and methods all over the place. I find that aspect of my personality to be an indicator that I'm still very much an undisciplined artist. For the moment, though, I rather like it that way. I make a point to learn something new either about myself as an artist or about a new process with each project, so as much as making art is a creative outlet for me, it's a learning experience as well.
